A French First!
For context, I plan to write a series of posts detailing some of my travels and experiences around the globe! The idea is to link these posts to my spinning travel globe component on the home page, so that if you click on a country (say, France for example) you will be able to see just what I was up to at that country (french food, sights, etc.). I’ve been blessed to have had the opportunity to travel to quite a few different places, so it might take a while until I’m able to catch up, but I’m looking forward to reminiscing and aggregating some of my travel experiences in one convenient place!
Visits
The first time I went to France was during a summer in my teenage years. It was a family trip that had us visit a few different countries in Europe- of which France was one. We stayed a night or two in Paris (which is also where I ended up in my subsequent visit), but notable we actually drove there from Milan. Although it wasn’t very long, I did get to experience the French countryside a tiny bit and I recall even stopping by a random, small French town to find a bathroom and snacks. I recall thinking that both the countryside and town were beautiful and peaceful, which served as quite the contrast to the approaching Parisian city life I would briefly experience.
Entering Paris, my first thought was that it reminded me of New York in a few ways. There were many cars, stores, and people out and about but there was a lack of skyscrapers which always reminded me that I wasn’t really in New York. I should note that prior to this, the only major cities I had been to outside of NYC were Madrid and Rome, which didn’t really give off New York vibes at all. It wasn’t until I got to analyze some of the Parisians, however, that the NYC comparison really started to make a bit more sense.
Funnily enough, I remember being equally amused and surprised at how ‘rude’ the Parisians were to me and my family. Having grown up in the NYC area, I was more than used to my fair share of rude and busy strangers on the street, but I suppose seeing this also be the case in another continent was somewhat surprising.
